Ben Yip
General Counsel and Head of Compliance
Ben Yip is the General Counsel and Head of Compliance at Nan Fung Trinity (HK) Limited, where he looks after the legal, regulatory and compliance needs of the investment management, advisory and private investment business. Prior to joining Nan Fung Trinity, he was the Head of Legal and Compliance at NFT Capital Limited where he led a team of legal and compliance professionals advising on licensing, governance regimes and compliance policies and procedures in relation to the firm’s asset management business as well as providing guidance on private equity and fund investment transactions in the US, Europe, APAC and China.
Previously, Ben was an in-house counsel with the Nan Fung Group where he was responsible for advising the group’s private equity, funds, capital investments, joint ventures and cross-border transactions. He was instrumental in helping the group obtain its asset management license from the SFC, as well as the launch of group’s first multi-strategy hedge fund in Asia.
Before joining the Nan Fung Group, Ben held a number of in-house counsel and compliance officer roles in Hong Kong and Beijing. Prior to moving in-house, Ben was in the private practice in Hong Kong, Beijing and the U.K. He was an attorney at King & Wood Mallesons where he handled a wide variety of matters ranging from mergers and acquisitions, foreign direct investment, VIE structures, joint ventures and commercial transactions. Ben is experienced in litigation, commercial property, licensing and commercial disputes, having worked at a U.K. firm before moving to Hong Kong.
Ben is a veteran lawyer in the asset management business. He is experienced in structuring a diverse range of investment schemes and providing advice on investment management, downstream investment transactions, private equity and hedge funds, regulatory compliance, governance, licensing, regulations and policies and procedures. Having been involved in the crux of the asset management business and having worked on many transactions in various sectors, he utilizes his extensive knowledge to provide practical advice to boards and senior leaders.
He served on the board of the HKCCA and helped organized many events for Hong Kong’s in-house counsels. He graduated with an LLB (Hons) from the University of West London. Ben is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
